Childhood Reflections
I spent my formative years growing up in the Philippines. I have several fond memories of my childhood that I believe shaped who I am today and provided me the foundation of what my values are. In retrospectively reflecting on your childhood, pull out your journal and write as much as you can remember about it.
This is an important foundation in my upcoming book The Lotus Within.
Reflecting on my childhood has been an enlightening journey, revealing layers of my personality, beliefs, and behaviors. It's like diving into a treasure trove of memories, each one holding a key to understanding myself better.
To reflect on my childhood, I start by revisiting significant events, both positive and negative. I delve into the emotions they evoked and the lessons they taught me. Journaling is a powerful tool, allowing me to capture thoughts and feelings as they arise. Additionally, talking to family members or friends who shared those moments helps gain different perspectives.
In this introspective process, I look for patterns and themes that shaped my upbringing. It could be recurring challenges I faced, influential figures who left an imprint, or values instilled by my upbringing. These insights serve as guideposts for personal growth, highlighting areas where I can heal, evolve, or celebrate my journey. Reflection isn't about dwelling on the past but understanding how it shapes my present and future.
As you take the time to reflect on your own childhood, it can help you:
Develop self awareness
Improve relationships
Heal past wounds
When you reflect on your childhood, look for patterns and behaviors that have continued in your adult lifr. Here are some to consider:
Relationships with caregivers
Family dynamics
Traumatic experiences
Interests and passions
Reflect on how you arrived where you are today. Take the time this week to think about your life story and the milestones that got you where you are now. Enjoy the journey! You will be surprised by what you discover about yourself.
